Bass Drum Sixteenth Note Partials
Develop bass-drum control and independence by placing sixteenth-note partials under a constant hand pattern.
How to practice this
These exercises are designed to help the student gain more control and independence with the bass drum. The hand pattern is constant throughout. Once the exercises are comfortable as written, the student may try omitting the bass drum on beat two in order to create patterns with a more natural flow. Ghost notes may also be added to the student's taste.
Practice playing the crash on one. Practice improvising phrases, for example three 4/4 measures of groove, and one measure of improvised fill. Work towards keeping a static hand pattern while improvising melodically with the bass drum.
