How to practice this

This is from one of my favorite bootlegs of all time. You can find the video this material is taken from here. Alan Dawson was one of the great masters of the drumset, a formidable teacher, and arguably the father of modern drumset pedagogy. He chaired the Berklee drumset department from 1957-1975, and taught many legendary drummers including Tony Williams and Vinnie Colaiuta.

Two of Dawson's greatest pedagogical contributions are his "Rudimental Ritual", and his eight triplet ways: a set of orchestration devices for interpreting rhythms, often used in conjunction with Ted Reed's _Syncopation_ (these are outlined in John Ramsay's _A Drummer's Complete Vocabulary_ which is essentially a written codification of many of Dawson's methods).

For those who have spent time working on his pedagogy, this example will serve to show you that he practiced what he preached. Lots of challenging four-way coordination, and brilliant applications of the ideas outlined in his eight triplet ways appear throughout. For those who have not spent time working on his pedagogy, perhaps this will inspire you to take the plunge!
